About us.
Whizz Kids Technology is the pet project of Assist Computing, a family run, Computer Support and Website Design company based on the Dorset and Hampshire border, close to the South Coast of the UK.
“We have 2 young daughters ourselves and know how difficult it is to find the right balance of technology V’s traditional education. Our youngest daughter is 4yrs old and already shows a great interest in computers – partly because she see’s her daddy fixing them, but also because like all small children, she adores her favourite characters like Mickey Mouse and Iggle Piggle and is thrilled to have the oppurtunity to join them in online activities on the Playhouse Disney or CBeebies websites.”
“Our eldest daughter is 7yrs old, we have had many difficulties with her learning and she has always been very behind in both intellectual and physical development. She has Developmental Coordination Disorder (Motor and Verbal Dyspraxia), along with many Aspergers (or high-functioning Autism) traits – though not enough for a diagnosis, also we are to expect the diagnosis of ADHD when she passes age 7. All this means that using a keyboard and mouse along with many other things that require good motor coordination have not come naturally to her, we have tried many ways of teaching her, some have worked and some haven’t – we have also tried many child friendly operating systems which we found were wonderful, we finally settled on Kido’z as this proved the easiest for our daughter to use and she loves it! We will re-assess this once she’s a little older and ready for an interface with more freedom.”
“Whilst we were on our quest to find the tools for the job, we approached other mothers and fathers for advice and opinions. We were surprised to hear how many parents are shying away from technology in the home when it comes to their children – with a little deeper digging, we found that many parents were aware that their children were using computers in school and were showing an interest in doing so at home yet parents were shying away from teaching them the safe way of using the technology, or the internet. Many were then finding that the child would reach 9 or 10yrs old and suddenly be ready to use the computer and the internet independently, meaning they had exceeded their families knowledge and nobody was checking what sites they were visiting.”
“So basically that’s where the idea for this website came from – we would love to help parents find the knowledge and confidence to enjoy technology with their children, we would also like to promote the amazing childrens browsers and Childrens operating systems that people in the UK don’t really seem aware of. With that said, please stay a while, enjoy our website and we hope that we can help you in some way today! Oh, and tell a friend.”
